North State Symphony ~ 2013-2014 Season!

Kyle PickettGreetings from the podium:

Hello!

I hope you enjoy looking through this brochure of North State Symphony concerts for the 2013-2014 season. I know that I look forward very much to performing this wonderful music, and to seeing you at our concerts.

From the exciting sounds of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in September, a “concert of the Americas” in November, special Romeo and Juliet concert for Valentine’s in February and Beethoven in May, you will find a lot of music that will enchant and delight you on our subscription concerts.

Remember, there is always a pre-concert talk one hour before our subscription concerts.

For the first time, you can order tickets for our two “special little concerts” (formerly called chamber music) at a discount if you order them when you purchase season tickets to the four “big” concerts.

Stand by for information on our great events and fundraisers, too.

Ravel - Le Tombeau de Couperin
    Tchaikovsky – Violin Concerto
  • Yevgeny Kutik, Violin

From the corners of the European continent come three bright, beautiful and bold pieces. Each is quite different yet each one shows the amazing variety of color in the orchestral sound. Spanish music with the color and rhythm of Andalusian folk dance, then a 20th Century homage to the stately 17th Century, the France of Versailles. Climactically, the most passionate and beautiful of all violin concertos, that of Peter Tchaikovsky.

The story of the lovers Romeo and Juliet always deeply affects anyone who hears it.
Because they were not allowed to be with each other, bloodshed resulted and hearts were broken. But some of the world's greatest music was also inspired by the story!

A great thing about traditional classical music is the sense of balance, order and harmony. Then within that world, the composer finds freedom to express the beauty he feels, sees and hears in the world.
