Garden Party

Would you like to host a garden party? Attend one?
What a fun way to support North State Symphony!

The photos below are from a lovely garden party Helga Ruge, of the Chico Guild, hosted on July 11, 2009. Helga has given several of these parties over the past few years. For this one, 50 guests paid $40 each at a silent auction, which raised $2000 for North State Symphony!

A string quartet consisting of members of the symphony entertained, and members of the Chico Youth and Women's Chorus under the direction of Susan Tevis sang for the guests. Helga donated the rest.

To find out how you can organize an event like this, contact the symphony office at 530-898-5984 or symphony@csuchico.edu.

Fall Fashion Show
November 2, 2008
at the Terraces

The Chico Guild embarked on a new adventure this fall. All their preparations bore fruit on Sunday, November 2nd, when 12 willing members, clad in Chico's fashions, strolled among the  many tables modeling the creations as if they had done it all their lives. The guests had already been put in a mellow mood by Peggy Steel's entertainment at the piano, and were further enchanted by the wandering violinist Frances Drew, an orchestra member, who played familiar show tunes. Marilyn Curtis acted as master of  ceremonies and Bonnie Hilbert, Guild President, welcomed and thanked the guests warmly for their support. The tickets to this event were $25.00 each, which will help the North State Symphony with its operating expenses.

Our guests were served lovely hors d'oeuvres, champagne and sweets during the fashion show. The tables were beautifully set and decorated with floral arrangements by individual members of the Guild. Connie Eccles coordinated the show. She and her committee worked with Lois Sciligo, program director at the Terraces, and Alison Rice, the manager of Chico's, to create a most delightful afternoon, as all who attended have agreed.

The afternoon concluded with a preview from the operetta The Mikado, performed by students of the Opera Workshop of California State University Chico under the direction of Professor Ying Yeh. They received enthusiastic applause. We were grateful for their support and an invitation to their show, which many of our members went to see. Their production was a big success  in part because musicians, mostly from the NSS, performed in the opera orchestra. They are so versatile!

The Fall Fashion Show may well have an encore next year, the year of the Guild's 50th anniversary. We'll keep you posted.
