Volunteer and Social Opportunities
North State Symphony volunteers play a major role in the orchestra’s
success. Join us and help support the orchestra in a vitally important
way.
There are many ways to help...
Concert Support:
- Usher at concerts
- Serve or make food for post-concert receptions
- Offer your home for a reception
House a Musician:
Open your home to a NSS(North State Symphony) musician for one or
two nights. Our musicians and hosts develop wonderful friendships.
Musicians appreciate very much a place to rest between rehearsals
and concert.
Special Events:
Assist with the North State Symphony’s fund raisers –
the annual Mozart Mile fun run/walk in Chico, the Holiday Gala in
Redding, special receptions, the annual Starlight Evening in Chico,
and our annual letter-writing and calling annual fund drive. It
takes many volunteers to make these events successful. Office Assistance:
Help our small NSS(North State Symphony) staff with mailings, data
entry, filing, marking music, invitation addressing, and other special
and ongoing tasks.
As a North State Symphony volunteer, you can:
- Get to know others who share your love of music.
- Attend orchestra rehearsals and other exciting activities,
including an annual volunteer event.
- Use your skills and experience to help the orchestra in a tangible
way
If you would like more information regarding volunteer opportunities,

The North State Symphony has a priceless resource in the form of
two auxiliary organizations. Volunteer members from across the north
state work behind the scenes with fund-raising, audience assistance
and scholarships. We are grateful for the endless hours our friends
donate on behalf of The North State Symphony. Bravo!
The Chico Guild of the North State Symphony.
The Chico Guild – North State Symphony was founded as the
Chico Symphony Guild in 1959. The Guild continues to financially
support the Symphony, promote attendance at concerts, and assist
and encourage young artists. The Guild welcomes active and associate members. Active members
attend business meetings and serve
on committees. Associate members attend meetings but their support
is primarily financial.
Monthly meetings are held at
10:00 a.m. on the first Thursday, September through June. The
business meetings are preceded
by musical programs.
Activities
The PRELUDE PARTY initiates the Symphony season and welcomes
new members with an evening of
music, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and
desserts in a garden setting.
Proceeds provide funds for Guild activities.
YOUNG ARTISTS AUDITIONS feature
high school and college/university student musicians. Winners receive
cash awards provided by the Chico Guild and the Redding League.
First place winners have the honor
of performing with the North State Symphony.
The SCHOLARSHIP FANFARE PLUS,
the Guild’s major fundraising event, combines a dinner
with silent and
live auctions and a musical program. Proceeds provide scholarships
for
students in the North State Symphony
and financial support for the Symphony.
Members of the Guild provide REFRESHMENTS for
the orchestra at the final rehearsals and, on request,
provide overnight ACCOMMODATIONS for out-of-town
Symphony musicians.
The Guild has for many years hosted RECEPTIONS to honor Symphony
donors and musicians.

The North State Symphony League of Redding
Opening the minds and hearts of young people to the world of music
is the goal of The League of Redding. To that end, their fund-raising
provides scholarships and operating funds that will allow us to
continue giving many students the opportunity to perform in the
orchestra next to professional musicians. The Redding League also hosts elegant post-concert receptions.
The League's gracious hospitality and generosity make our musicians
feel at home and appreciated behind the scenes as well as on the
stage.
If you would like to join or find out more about these organizations
which provide invaluable support to the orchestra as well as provide
social opportunities, contact:
